Be in the moment

I visited Westonbirt Arboretum today, so many beautiful trees and space. My week had been quite stressful, so I wanted to get out in nature and focus on the moment.

There was a lot of chatter with families and excited children, but a lot of time where we could be quiet together.

I love trees, I love to touch the bark and trace my finger across the pattern.  I want to spend time with trees and to let them know they are appreciated.

There was a notice board, with a reminder

Allow yourself time to pause here among the trees, and bring your mind to this point in time and then

  1. Let your eyes rest on 5 things around you. Have you noticed anything new?
  2. Tune into 4 things you can hear.
  3. Connect with 3 things around you using your sense of touch. The ground beneath your feet, the sun or rain on your skin, what does it feel like?
  4. Acknowledge 2 things you can smell as you walk.
  5. Recognise one thing you can taste in your mouth right now. Is it your toothpaste? Does the air have a taste?

I noticed the different leaves – shapes and colour, leaves on trees and leaves on the ground.

I listened to the wind and the rustle of trees.  There are different sounds from different trees.

I noticed the absence of bird song; I don’t know why it was so silent.

I felt the wind on my face, and the gentle drops of moisture.

I felt calm.
